Rector, NUST «MISIS»
Alevtina Chernikova graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Voronezh State University in 1988. She started her research career at the Institute for the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly under L.D. Shevyakov.
From 1993 to 2003, Alevtina Chernikova worked as a chief accountant and a chief financial officer in the LLC «System Service», specializing in the development and implementation of an automatic control system of the organization’s technological processes, as well as in business management. During this time, in 1997, Chernikova received qualifications as a distinguished accountant: chief accountant, accountant expert, and consultant of the Institute of Professional Accountants of Russia under the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation.
From 1997 to 2012 she rose through the ranks from senior lecturer to professor of the Economics and Management Department of the Stary Oskol Technological Institute (NUST MISiS branch). She served as the director of that institute from 2008 until 2012, when she was appointed the first Vice Rector of the National University of Science and Technology MISiS, and the Acting Rector of the university. Academically, she successfully defended her thesis as a candidate of economic science in 2002, and in 2008 she defended her doctoral thesis on Economics.
Since 2013 Chernikova has been the Rector of NUST MISiS. Under her direction the university has become one of the winners of the Competitiveness Enhancement Project of the Leading Russian Universities among the Global Research and Education Centers and also ranks among the world’s leading universities according to QS and THE World University Rankings.
Chernikova has authored more than 120 publications, including over 90 scientific papers and 30 academic manuals.
Alevtina Chernikova is a prize-winner and has received commendation from the Government of the Russian Federation in the field of education. She has been awarded: the 1st class Medal «for Merit to the Belgorod»; NUST MISiS Medal «For Faultless Service»; and the NUST MISiS 1st class Medal «for Honorable Service». She additionally has been decreed as an «Honorable member of higher professional education» and has received the Federal Agency for Education’s immense gratitude.
